Springbank Studio
Springbank Studio is the new permanent home of Georgia Bosson Studio (GBS), and before we get too settled and forget the drama to get here, I thought it would be good to share the transformation that the space has gone through since we first set eyes on it in February 2020.
The studio has been transformed from a space with no electricity, water in the basement, and several missing ceilings into a low-energy, light, welcoming studio space. We worked with specialist architects to ensure the new space conforms to Enerphit standards. We were passionate about creating a low-energy space as it forms a huge part of our total carbon footprint, so now, our new space will help us work towards a net zero-carbon future.
The technology and terminology I have had to learn on this journey are enough to fill several blog posts. Suffice it to say it was certainly not the easy route. However, I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved.
The studio will be available to hire at various points throughout the year. Through our new sister company, Springbank Studio, we will be back to curating and managing a programme of events encompassing everything from workshops to exhibitions and supper clubs.
Below is a highlighted selection of images that show the process of stripping out the entire building so that we could lift the floor to create a beautiful new basement workshop. The sign was painted by a sign painter duo, the Sunny Sign Co, after many weeks of sanding, priming, filling, sanding, and finally painting in the middle of January was done by me!
