Outdoor Canopy

Site Gallery, Sheffield

2017

I was commissioned by the architecture studio, Public Works to design and manufacture a canopy and set of outdoor curtains for Site Gallery in Sheffield.

The brief was to create hard-wearing textiles which were to be used in Site Gallery’s temporary van space whilst their main space was being refurbished.

With designs inspired by the youth arts programme at the gallery, the 5 x 6m canopy was made from a technical nautical cloth more commonly found on cruise ships. The fabric allowed for rain cover whilst also ensuring wind could pass through so that the bus didn’t take off unexpectedly.

The curtains were made from digitally printed ripstop nylon and were fitted with magnets to allow for easy installation and storage.
